Our Alima Story

Your personal connection to Philippine artisans

In 1998, Rose Nepomuceno established Silver Handicrafts (now known as Alima) in her hometown called Barrio Albasan. She was spurred by the growing number of local women, mostly stay-at-home mothers, who were actively looking for ways to supplement their family’s income. Being an advocate for women, she decided to train these women on how to create beautiful, long-lasting Nito items that will help empower them and improve their incomes.

Today, hundreds of women from Barrio Albasan and the surrounding communities help make handmade, durable and elegant pieces from Alima. When you purchase an Alima item, you help support Filipino craftsmanship, sustainable employment and our local women’s economic empowerment.

Thank you for making a more meaningful purchase.

NITO PRODUCTS

Nito vines are slender, climbing ferns. These are carefully sourced mostly from the mountains of Aklan.

  • Proven to be long-wearing for years to use and keep

  • Rich, natural colors changes from green to light brown, then dark brown as years go by

  • It's natural texture and color variations make each piece unique

  • Nito items are heat-resistant

Intricately handcrafted, Nito items are an expression of hard work, fine craftsmanship, and ingenuity that our tribesmen in Aklan have mastered for years.

Our items are designed and dedicated to lovers of nature with a taste of elegance, quality and at most, functional. Be it for gifts or for personal use, you will treasure our products for a lifetime.

Caring & Handling Instructions

It's best to handle your nito products with clean hands; free of lotion, oil or grease of any kind. A feather duster or a clean, dry natural bristle paintbrush is the best way to remove dust from nito products. You may also opt to use the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner with a nylon stocking placed over the end.

For deep cleaning, dampen a white 100% cotton cloth (cotton baby diapers work well), very slightly with clean cold water and blot gently; then let basket air dry completely. Submerging nito products in water isn't advisable but you may brush them lightly under running water to remove stubborn dirt. Wipe down with a dry cotton cloth and towel or air dry.
